By far and away my clients that get the best results are those who are actively engaged in the process of achieving their goals. From my standpoint, I can only provide someone with the tools and the workout to get the results; however, never has that been the reason people transform their bodies. I will take some credit, but the true transformation comes from what lies between the ears. I read somewhere the other day about the “teachability index,” and I thought it was a phenomenal concept. The teachability index is composed of two things:
1) One’s willingness to learn (1-10 scale)
2) One’s willingness to change (1-10 scale)
Multiply those two numbers together and you’ll find your teachability index. If someone is willing to learn but not willing to change, forget about getting results. If someone is willing to change but not willing to learn, forget about getting results. As much as I believe in educating everyone I work with, there simply is not enough time to learn everything one needs to know to arm themselves in their war against the unhealthy outside world! So my suggestion, is take some initiative! Instead of a novel, read a personal development book. Instead of watching biggest loser and learning all sorts of bad exercising habits, read about exercise and basic nutrition strategies to get to your goals!
